Past Lives… Do you know who/what you were?

Mon Aug 29, 2011 3:48 PM EDT
not-news, reincarnation
By MsAubrey

I truly believe in reincarnation. Many people don't, but I have the mindset to live and let live. I hold an array of beliefs. We'll just leave it at that. This is not for bashing religious beliefs. This is not to debate with one another about what you think is right or wrong. This is a fun article to talk about the belief in reincarnation and what/who you were in a past life (lives if you will).

I believe I've been a cat. I was diagnosed with Idiopathic Hypersomnia with long sleep cycles. Without Provigil, I would sleep upwards of 18hrs out of 24. I have always loved to be rubbed on or my hair played with. And while you might say, "Who DOESN'T love that?"… Mine is obsessive. I do however TRY to keep from getting @!$%#ty about not being loved on and not ask ALL the time. I will cuddle, but not for too long. I like having my own space. I've always loved to climb. If I don't force myself to get up and do something, I will just be lazy all day (weekends mainly because I work full time).

I also believe I've been a human male. I think this may be the first time for me being female. I'm not that great at being 'girly'. I don't wear makeup. I much prefer hanging out with the guys. I am a mechanic. Even went to school to be an aircraft mechanic. I find being 'catty' and manipulative repulsive and would rather punch each other in the face and then have a beer if mad at one another. I don't wear makeup hardly ever… MAYBE twice in a year? Dresses? If you're super lucky… You might see me in one twice in a decade. Isn't that what slacks were made for? And who came up with the idea of heels??? A SADIST!!!

So, what about you? Do you know or think you know who/what you've been [if you believe in reincarnation]?

CoH please.

Again, this is not a debate. This is not a place to bash one another. This is not political in any way. This is not to argue about your God(s), Goddess(es), or any other religion based belief.

This is for fun people! Let's keep it as such!

Um, I think I might have been a tick at some point. Or maybe a squirrel? Honestly, I have no idea. I've never had an experience that would give me any insight into past lives.

I think I have seen my past lives through my dreams.

I've been burned at the stake, wearing a monks robe.

I most probably a female prostitute that enjoyed her work.

I'm interested in what my next life will bring, but the one I'm living now is proving to be interesting.

It's possible that my soul transmigrated a bit over the millennia. If there is anything in my present existence that provides clues to what I used to be, here is a list of the top ten things I may have been in previous lives, in ascending order.

10. A gardener (I am vegan).

9. A Jaguar (I love to run up and down hills).

8. A compost heap (I read a lot of Vine articles).

7. A space heater (I like to give my family warm hugs).

6. A tree (Sometimes I wait for company to leaf, while I just stand stationary doing nothing).

5. A consonant (I do like a nice cup of tea).

4. A bull who is regular (I read a lot of Newsvine articles).

3. An ear of corn (I like to listen).

2. A lizard (My tongue CENSORED).

1. A stallion put out to stud (I like to CENSORED).

Ok...at the risk of being totally not PC - I think I may have been involved in the Civil Rights movement...

As a kid, my parents were "free range" - they let us kids decide our likes on our own and then enthusiastically supported them.

When I was 4, Cabbage Patch dolls were all the rage and I got to pick one out for my birthday - I chose a Black "Preemie" baby and took her EVERYWHERE (including, my most vivid memory, into surgery where I held her tight against me in that sea of white)....in Kindegarten, I came home and begged my mom to do my hair with "lots of braids like Gwen" and no matter what my mom did, I wasn't satisfied - when she discovered Gwen was Black, she had to explain that my hair wouldn't go like that and I just couldn't accept it...in 4th grade, my two best friends and I were obsessed with the "American Girls" books and all I wanted to read was Addy...I got the doll for Christmas that year.

I became obsessed with learning more about that time period which led to an interest in the Civil Rights Movement and I have always felt oddly moved by the history.

Though I've never admitted it outloud :-)

i remember hearing a story maybe 15yrs ago, about a lady who was hypnotised. all her life she suffered from back pain but nothing could be found to be causing it, anyway during her hypnotic state she was able to recount several lives, and one of those lives she was a Roman soldier that was killed by being stabbed in the back.

I believe in reincarnation, and if I ever hit the jackpot, I'd love to have past life regression done, just for the fun of it. Having said that, I don't think we were necessarily incarnated on this world in this realm. I think I must come from elsewhere, because most of this world's thought patterns seem alien to me:)

Msaubrey, I love your cat life... I've always loved to climb. I remember Albert Brooks' movie, Defending Your Life, with Merle Streep and the Past Lives Booth. Merle had fabulous past lives and Brooks' past lives were typical Brooks style. I don't have a clue about my past lives but I'm sure I was very, very bad and I'm paying the price now.

I don't know that I've ever been someone else or something else. I've read about the subject. I've always been able to think in rhyme. The only other thing is that neither the sight of blood or the smell bothers me, even when I was younger. That was a good thing, my mom freaked when one of the kids got hurt. :)

In my most recent past life, as I understand it, I, as a female in this one, married a man I killed in the last life. Payback was hell and ten years after the dissolution of that painful union I was still not over it. Under hypnosis for another intent, I found it. It took years to accept but once I did I found myself able to forgive the result by accepting the cause. That acceptance was hard to come by but life has been much better ever since. Then came the awareness of other lives with the same person with the back and forth with the same result. In one he killed me, in the next I killed him. In each instance, it probably was somewhat justifiable, at least in our own minds. This time we did not. Might have come close but we managed to restrain ourselves. I am still standing and continue to learn.

A good resource for understanding this process is Dr. Brian Weiss. He has several books of what he learned. Wish I could have found it before I spent years working it all out. Most informative.

I don't know about a past life but I do know this, if there is a next time I'm not doing the woman thing again! I don't like to dress up and have always been somewhat of a tomboy. I grew up with mostly male cousins and while I did play Barbies growing up, I also played with Matchbox cars and my neighbors Kenworth truck toys lol. When I was in the military, I always felt more at ease and comfortable with the guys than the girls. I have a very masculine energy. Always been at war with the two sides of self (not surprised I'm diagnosed at Bipolar really). Sometimes I feel like the latest incarnation of Morrigu lol - wherever I live and whomever I interact with, drastic transformation happens. I know it's just coincidence but it's romantic and grandiose to think otherwise sometimes :-P

Sounds familiar except there were no boys around to hob nob with. One memory of my youth that sticks out just now is weilding a sledge hammer at about age 12. With all girls in the family I was seriously out of place. Stayed in trouble among siblings for lack of interest in fashion, make-up and boys. However, I am all for romantic and grandoise. It makes for a good and instant vacation.

Possibly comes from having more male past lives than female. However, given the differences in sensibilities I have learned that the female is far more sensitive to others as a vague generality. I used to joke with the guys I worked with that they would have to live at least 3 lives as a male before they would be qualified to come back as a female, when they derided me for being the opposite gender in a male dominated job. Sometimes I feel that some who do not make the full transition wind up being classified into alternate lifestyles. Very tough row to hoe.

Kevin Costner said in Bull Durham that he always wondered why people who think they're reincarnated aren't just some Joe Schmo. They're always Queen Hatshepsut, etc.

If you can get Dr. Brian Weiss's book, Many Lives - Many Masters it's worth the read and his credentials are outlined and impeccable. Gives much more credence to the exploration and it's results. Not only that, now that he is retired from his responsiblilites he is giving seminars and can be googled. His techniques are being taught in many places. He was even a guest on the Oprah show and found some receptives to light hypnosis in the audience. Needless to say, they were somewhat startled.

Dr. Weiss's books are great. I have a few ideas about my past lives. My bf of 30+ years thinks that she was my husband in a pl. I believe I was an African-American house maid in the 50's - 60's. (Read "The Help") I journal about feelings and thoughts about it. I didn't think that animals were a part of it, but my bf is convinced that her dog (they are inseperable and he has epilepsy) is a reincarnation of a cousin that molested her and died in his early 20's.

Learning how it impacts the current experience is part of the experience. I was born into a family that was somewhat violent with each other, but learned it was part of the heritage on the maternal side. I married a man who himself been molested and the experience turned him into an alcoholic with violent tendencies while in a blackout. In our last lives together we were brothers whose mother died while they were young and abandoned by their father. They eventually became what is known as grubline riders, that is riding around the country finding work wherever they could for a few days of room and board. Anytime they had money they took it to the nearest town and blew it on booze and the things that goes along with that. In our earlier lives, he was an egyptian priest who sacrificed me and in a following life, I was an Aztec priest and returned the favor. None well known or important outside their immediate circles. Other things happened in relationship to these events, cause and effect but not germaine to this conversation. Many current habits, beliefs, interests, abilities and attitudes I had were directly related until the source was uncovered. I think this is how we get prodigies as nothing throughly learned is ever completely lost.

I know this is a dated article, yet want to add that I do believe our souls experience many lives and we have memories of these lives in every life we experience. This is such an interesting topic yet it is difficult to process in many ways. I have frequent visits from past loved ones and often get hits of other lives we've experienced together assisting me in understanding the dynamics of our more memorable one. Good topic, MsAubrey! Thanks.

I have spent a lot of time in research and experimentation to understand the focus of a lifetime. I've meditated for about 40 years and this is a great resource for observing other existences in physical focus. I do know that my other living experiences bleed into my currently focused life and this is very beneficial for me to see changes, understand history and to be able to have first hand "sight" into the total of my being. It also has made me quite fearless in this focus as I know we are all simply playing out a drama and should simply play it as it lays. I think this is why I am so cheerful, optimistic and have no need to ever play the "victim" in any event in my life no matter how horrific it may seem.

Thanks for bringing me here, js. A very interesting topic.

I remember parts of some of my past lives vividly, while others are just a shadow. I feel connected to a person in this life as if we had been together before. My belief is that time is not linear, but more of a plane & if after death a person decides they want to come back they can then choose which door on the plane to open.

I believe all is happening at once and what we perceive as past present and future are not at all what it seems. The "choose which door on the plane to open" is a super way of putting this, nica, and I believe it is right on target.

I have favorites evidently as some of my lives seem to play a more focused part than others in this focus. I find this in some of the abilities and creativity I enjoy now and often feel the presence of "me" doing like activities while I'm enjoying mine. It is lovely to share the joy of an activity and be allowed a glimpse into how I perceive this in different times in our shared history.

The Tibetan Buddhists, who are probably among the most knowledgeable on reincarnation, believe we loose almost all, if not all, of our memory of the previous lives. I will have to go with them on this one as they have been involved, studying and experiencing the phenomena for nearly 2000 years.

I do believe we forget or in my view have selective amnesia in our experiences yet do feel there is quite a lot of memory energy available if we seek this out. We are pretty much indoctrinated to forget and encouraged to forget if we bring too much of this out in our early age. I was continually reminded to refrain from speaking of those visitors I encountered that I could only see and to speak of my experiences in other times when I was very young. Speaking out has caused many to be taken out so I can understand why we suppress this a lot.

In a past life, long ago I lent Ms. Aubrey $100 in Shekels during the Biblical Second Temple period.

At compound interest, Ms. Aubrey now owes me $987,654,321,098,765,432.10.

Prompt payment would be appreciated, for good Karma forthcoming.

Fascinating topic.

Yes. I do believe that we have all been here before. Some of us more often than others. We choose to be here, we choose what we want to learn or take away from each life we have. And sometimes we end up having to do a "do over".

I've had several people tell me I have an "old soul". I think my son has an "old soul" and my daughter is more of a "newbie".

Speaking of souls. Interesting story about my first daughter. Although she wasn't with us very long, she had such a major impact on everyone.

Everyone that looked at her would stop what ever they were doing and just gaze at her. If she made eye contact with them, they would follow us. Just gazing at her with the most wondrous expression on their faces.

We were followed into elevators, and then off them. Down hallways, or where ever we happened to be. The moment contact was cut, they seemed to wake up from their daze, and always completely confused as to why they were in the elevator, on the wrong floor, in a parking lot...

Nearly every one commented 'why am I here?' or something to that effect, before wandering off to do whatever it was they were going to be doing before they became 'attached'.

She did have the most amazing eyes, that seemed to reach deep inside and touched a forgotten core.

I often wonder if souls pick someone to come to for a brief visit daMamma. Their purpose is profound and they don't stay long but the impact they have lingers. I've often thought they come to show us what our soul is all about and those that catch on are blessed.

I think so js. She came at a time when so many in my family needed her most. Perhaps even those whose lives we just flittered through.

I do know that there was something very profoundly special about her.

I have observed that many of the gifts we are given in life have a profound impact upon us that will change the course of our lives forever. Some of us embrace these gifts no matter how temporarily they touch our lives and other lament that the gift wasn't enough and they waste its value. This makes me wonder if we test ourselves this way in our quest for soul growth.

That sounds quite possible, after all many of these 'gifts' do invoke/provoke very deep emotional responses. Not to mention a considerable amount of self reflection.

Hopefully we have some purpose for being here other than muddling about running into each other. I do know that the suppression of spiritual and soul growth has kept many from remembering anything other than what has happened to them in this present life.

As a young child my mother warned me over and over not to talk about my visions and visitors as everyone would think I was crazy. Since I seemed to be the only one experiencing these events on a regular basis I did keep quiet for the most part. However, being quiet didn't stop the experiences at all.

My children are all well connected to me and have many paranormal experiences. My youngest is the strongest in this but the other two had many visitors I observed also. Perhaps if these experiences are viewed as a normal part of us we wouldn't think anything of it and integrate them into our learning as humans. I certainly have as I've had no choice.

I don't think children are concerned about the "unseen" world visitors at all for the most part. I know my "friends" and those of my daughter were as real as anything and their presence was very essential for coping and learning. I remember continually having that buddy right beside me in all my escapades. I still feel that presence continually and as a child felt very reassured due to having a companion or companions. I was never good at focusing upon my physical body to the point where I could dismiss the energy from the spirit world.

When I was very young I was confused about the "real" world and the "other" world I knew even better than the "real" one. lol

I agree with js here.

I think it's that people make the lil ones feel bad for acknowledging the "non-visible"... Which seem to be only non-visible/unseen by those people making them feel bad/crazy in the first place.

My nephew started to tell me a story once, when he was about 7. He said "when we lived by the ocean, and my Dad was my brother and my mom was my Dad............" I asked him why he stopped telling me and he said "Oh, never mind, you wouldn't believe me anyway". That made me sad. I would have loved for him to continue, but he never brought it up again.

The forbidden world was created by those that had other agendas for humans and their beliefs. They decided that this was exclusive information not designed for everyone. We all have the ability to tap into other levels of consciousness yet many are afraid if they do death will result as punishment. I have had quite a few encounters with people with this belief and although they dabbled in bringing out some of their memories it frightened them so much they ran back to the security of their narrow and dictated worlds of indoctrination and propaganda.

It isn't unusual for people to be around me when a "miracle" (in their minds) has happened. It could be in the form of a offhanded remark, incident or avoiding an accident, they've all stood in wonder. Little did they know they have the same abilities and most were hard pressed to believe what had just happened. There are times when we are with someone and our combined energy will create some amazing events yet most pass these of as mere coincidence or crazy circumstances.

I believe that our minds are connected to the other world, it is our human fleshy brain that is limited, but, only by our inability to access no more than 10% of it, if we could learn to access more of our brain I think that our mind would beable to show us so much more of the universe.

Does this make sense??

That makes a lot of sense gmross. I also believe dogma, indoctrination, propaganda and general brainwashing suppresses what we know of all the layers of existence quite efficiently. If we suspect there is more than right here all the information we've been programmed with discounts it as being a myth or non-existent.

As much as I enjoyed my physical body as a vehicle for learning and fun it was pretty alien to me for a long time and still is to a point. While I know it is a part of me I also know it isn't all there is to me.

I've often wondered if I weren't a Jewish person in a previous life, and perhaps killed in the holocaust. I seem to be drawn to the stories of those who survived the camps and what happened to them. Not in a voyeuristic way, but in an empathetic way... I certainly mean no disrespect to anyone when I say that. Maybe that is awfully quick for a reincarnation, but what do I know? I sometimes think I was a slave in a long ago life, too.

I would love to meet someone who "channels" people and learn more about it. I have a feeling that whatever it is that I'm supposed to learn, I haven't learned it yet. I hope, whoever I was in a past life, that I was a kind person. It would be terribly disconcerting to do a channeling and find out that I was Attila the Hun or something...

I have a very traumatic experience as a two year old and discovered I could get outside of my body and observe the experience and watch it play out.

When I was in my late 20's I was so discontent with the excuses and silliness going on in my world I decided to explore what made us the way we are as humans. I read copious amounts of material and a few authors stood out making a lot of sense to me. Jane Robert's Seth Material and Joan Grant, Taylor Caldwell, Edgar Cayce are a few I liked the best.

I began meditating and experimenting with out of body adventures and had some amazing results with this practice. I kept up with the practice until my youngest was 4 years old and stopped because she followed me into my dreams and this would frighten her. I'd be into an adventure and she'd call out crying and tell me what scared her and it was continually connected to what I had been dreaming at the time. I'd often see her there with me and caution her to leave but this didn't work so I refrained from actively participating in these exercises for quite a while. Now she's an adult so I don't have to worry so much any longer.

One particular experience I had impacted me greatly. I was a prisoner in a concentration camp. I was filthy, hungry, ill and very scared. I was kneeling in front of a Nazi soldier begging him to spare my family. I could feel his hatred toward me and the uselessness of my pleas and although terrified I risk looking him in the eyes. When I looked up at him I was no longer the victim of his wrath I was him, looking down at me with deep disgust and loathing. It was bad enough to be this poor lice ridden ragged human but to be in the body of the hateful unfeeling soldier was even worse. This experience gave me insight that as humans we play our roles and take them very seriously and each plays a part in teaching the result of our actions and their impact upon the whole of humanity.

That would be a very upsetting experience-- but also very insightful. Have you ever read the book, "The Shape of Illusion"? It is about a painting that is 'haunted', sort of. It's a painting of the crucifixtion of Christ, and people, when they see it, see themselves in the crowd. The man that painted it was burned as a heretic, and the painting has resurfaced, still with the same properties, and art dealers are figuring out what to do with it. In some way, every person in the book is in the painting-- a part of the screaming crowd, a Roman soldier, etc. One of the interested parties is a Jesuit and sees himself as the hateful Roman soldier, beating Christ. A very insightful, disturbing book, but very good. I think you'd find it to be very interesting, in light of your experience.

I wish I were more in tune with that part of my brain, but can only see glimpses of things, and follow some deep instinct that leads me down specific paths of discovery... Maybe some day, I'll be able to figure it out!

I've only heard of "the Shape of Illusion" Dowser, thanks for reminding me.

I can understand this could happen as we never want to see ourselves as the "bad guy" but someone usually picks that role to teach us what we do not wish to practice as humans. I find it amusing that past regression often finds us being much more respectable than we've probably been.

I was laughing with friends in a similar discussion and said, "What if you had to play the role of Hitler?" and it was your time to reappear as a human and asked, "Who is this Hitler guy and what is important about this role?" So you are shown the basics of his life and remark, "Dang, I always have to play the bad guy!" So perhaps life is like playing Cowboys and Indians or Cops and Robbers as we did as children. What a bummer for some. As a kid I was always the one someone was running after to trap and abuse and be thrown into the outhouse for punishment. Thank goodness that isn't me in real time. lol

Love you Dowser!

I had a past life reading once this is what I got:

1st life to come up- Born around 1130 in what is Dublin, Ireland. Your family had moved to Scotland shortly after you were born. You were raised in a Druid society with secretive rituals and beliefs. Outside of this circle you were not allowed to speak about what went on. At the age of 23, you were having an affair with the High Priest among the Druids. When you had become pregnant with his child, the High Priestess had been meeting with others privately to have you killed. So in the middle of the night you took off to another town in hiding. When it was time to have the baby, you had a trusted friend that tried to help you through. Unfortunately, both you and the child passed on. This child will be in the current life with you as well as the friend that helped you.

2nd life to come up- In 1369 during the Italian Renaissance around Florence you were married to a man who traveled throughout Europe trading goods for other luxuries and gold coins. He kept you very well taken care of even though you did not have a chance to see him much. Your role during this time was to take care of the children, there were 2- both boys, and gather goods for food and warmth during the winter months. About the time your oldest son was 23, he set off to trade with his father. A few months later, your husband was killed during a trade and robbed of the money and goods he had. Your son was not around during that however your son did continue trading and from that point had taken care of you.

3rd life to come up- During the time period of the Civil War around 1860, you lived in the northeast helping slaves escape through the underground railroad. In this life you were married to a wealthy lawyer and businessman and lived in a rather large home in upstate New York. The house had a basement and 3 levels to it. You were still young at this point and did not have children until about 1864. Your husband supported you in helping the slaves to escape. Some of them who escaped also ended up fighting in the war. Your sister also took part and the reason I am mentioning the sister is because she was the friend in the first life that helped you and is also living in your current life. I think you and this person have what it is called a past lives contract.

JustMeSayingMyThing, do you dream of these lives now and then? My son was my protector and saved me from harm and adopted me. This was in the early 1500s during the first religious wars. When he was born he had marks on his body that resembled sword wounds that had healed. These marks faded after a time, however. I did talk to a psychic about this and she told me that he was one with intense physic energy and had a guardian that was with him much of the time making sure he was kept safe. Often while nursing him I would see a shape of someone dressed in robes standing near observing us. Since this was pretty normal for me to see such beings I was not alarmed. This entity was very religious and radiated parental loving energy.

By the time he was a year old I knew he'd been a fierce warrior at one time through his interest in jousting with his toys. He took the musical end off of a stick it was on, put an empty yogurt tub on his head and began practicing sword movements. He belonged to an organization that reenacted events of medieval times. He is very skilled in the food preparation, sword making, armor and clothing design. It would seem this psychic was right on with this life he experienced and some carried over quite nicely. He is still a fierce warrior but instead of fighting his path is peace and justice.
