YAY! I just ordered my Cam Kit, Freeze Plugs, and Cam Bearings from Summit Racing. There are other things I need for my 'bird, but that will get me started on things. The block needs to be dipped and new freeze plugs and cam bearings in and one person that we know does all of that... That should only cost me around $200 to get done. Once the block is clean, I'll install the new cam kit. Then... Look for my intake. I'm pretty sure I'll have to buy that new as well. Most people don't build a 1975 Olds 455. The intake I'm going with is an Edlebrock #2151 (Performer). The only thing I haven't been able to find is Headers. They have been hell to try and find... You can find them for a big block Olds, but not in a 79 Firebird body. No room. The ones that were in the car when I got it, were far too long. The previous owner bashed the firewall (now repaired) and cut the trans crossmember to get em in!!! So, now, I have to buy a trans crossmember too. But that was easy enough to find. It's the same for all 70's Camaro's and Firebirds. And they were all pretty inexpensive.

I was lucky enough that a friend of my husband's is building a Camaro and had a Carburator that was too much for his small block... And I had one that was far too small for my big block! : ) We made a trade. An Edlebrock 650cfm for his Edlebrock 750cfm. It couldn't have been more perfect.

I've found just about everything on Summit Racing.com and at about the same price (or less) then other places. I'm just excited to finally be able to get the engine built! I'll have to update as I go... Maybe I'll add pictures later too. : )

Keep us posted with pictured, I had an old 1970 Formula 400 Firebird so I am curious how yours will turn out. I had a heck of a time fitting headers on the 'bird.

Believe it or not... It has been a challenge to find anything for my 79... But I see things for older (prior to 78 - Smokey & the Bandit era) everywhere! And to have a big block Olds... My car will certainly have a special, unique charm... None of it's kind.
